Bloody Mary: A Gaga Halloween

creative direction, projectionist

Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Working again with Philadelphia based promoter Darius Alexander, the assignment was to create a video package that could be projected onto two opposing walls at a local nightclub for a Lady Gaga themed Halloween Party. We printed several hours of Lady Gaga music videos, custom animated logos, and other assets to VHS tape, then projected them onto a wall and filmed the result on a Hi8 camera from 1989. This washed out the colors, flattened the dynamic range, and increased noise. By repeating this processes over and over again, the footage began to take on the look of low budget film stock used in many classic horror films. By then adding the analog video glitches ofhorror films such as Ringu and Videodrome, we were able to create a unique aesthetic merging the roughness of classic horror with the glam of Lady Gaga.

Using a single laptop and multiple VCR's in tandem, both projection walls maintained unique imagery throughout the event.
